My research

My main long term research interests concern the atomic structure of materials and how the atoms move, particularly materials with some degree of structural disorder. This work includes the study of structural phase transitions, negative thermal expansion, orientationally disordered materials, amorphous materials, high-temperature materials, atomic site disorder, and radiation damage.

I use two main techniques. Experimentally I use methods that involve the scattering of radiation, mostly beams of neutrons but also x-ray beams. These are supported by various methods of computer simulation.
